Social Media Marketing

Photography and Social Media Marketing seem to go hand in hand in our fast paced society.  The options available are almost endless as well, from Facebook to Plus Sites.  One of the sites I have found recently on the topic is at http://www.tofurious.com. Check it out, and stay connected.

The New Look

Finally a New Look has dawned on the Captured Innocence Photography website!  I have to admit – the look of the site over the last year, I found to be utterly boring!  But, with some help from a creative neighbour I am much closer to where I’d like the site to appear as: more stream lined, with added personal touches.  Still need some tweaking, but I really feel this presents my style better.  Take a look at www.capturedinnocence.ca and send your feedback to: Heather@capturedinnocence.ca  I’d love to hear from you!!

Kodak Files For Bankruptcy

kodak

During my second year of college the entire photography department packed up and took off to New York.  We camped at a K.O.A. – I’m thinking it was late October when we went – what I do know, was that it was cold!  The next day we went to the iconic Kodak Factory!  Now according to the latest news, Kodak itself may soon be just a memory.

A Ducky Belly Bump!

Pregnancy is an incredible time for a woman, a human life is actually growing inside – developing features, and character…and giving you a jab in the ribs from time to time too!  To celebrate the time and just have a little fun, Creative Baby Bumps gives a fun option to celebrate that growing belly!  I had the opportunity to record the memories of one of my past Brides getting a very personalized baby bump painting done as a surprise for her husband recently.  Stacey has been collecting Rubber Ducky's for many years, so it was fitting that she chose to have rubber ducky's painted on her as they await their second child.  If you are interested in learning more about Creative Baby Bumps and the artist  - Maggie who works from the comfort of your home check out the contact info below the images, and celebrate your baby bump!

Kick Start

I just noticed this website this morning after following a link from another photographers website to check out another belt grip style camera holder.  This site Kick Start, in a way is like the shows Dragons Den, or the US version Sharks Tank – but with a twist.  With the website, the ideas are posted, and the public chooses whether they want to invest in the projects, and in doing so, receive it at a discounted price of what the inventor eventually wishes to sell the item for.  Many of the items I found to be books, however there are some amazing inventions, and fun ideas.  Here is just one called – The Imaginary Marching Band.  You can check out the full site at: www.kickstarter.com, also for Canada.  Consider making a proposal if you have the next million dollar idea !

The Latest From Hassleblad

The Hasselblad was my first professional camera after graduating college with my photography diploma in 1990.  Worth a small fortune, however I was fortunate enough to begin working for another photographer and worked it off over some time.  It was a totally manual camera, with the special “speed wind dial” – WOW – how much camera’s have changed in 20+ years!  You can now pick up the latest Hasselblad camera boasting 200 – yes – Two Hundred megapixels…for a mere $45,000 – now shipping Smile

The Following Post By Joe Pollicino posted May 26th 2011 6:02AM At EndGadget.com

Hasselblad's H4D-200MS is yet another upgrade to its H4D camera line that we want badly, but wouldn't have a need -- or a budget -- for. This latest piece of kit is nearly identical to the 50 megapixel H4D-50MS externally, but internally adds an astonishing 150 more megapixels to the mix -- yes, that's an astounding 200 megapixels! Don't feel forgotten just yet if you have the older model, though, as Hasselblad can upgrade your sensor for €7,000 (roughly $10,000) -- a great deal considering the full kit costs €32,000 (about $45,000). With that said, we should note that details are null on the medium-format sensor's native resolution -- similar to the multi-shot feature on the 50MS, the new 200MS combines six shots to create ridiculously detailed 200 megapixel still images, and it handles less intensive photos with a four-shot 50 megapixel still mode. Should you dare to venture outside the studio, there's a 50 megapixel single-shot live mode for quick shots as well. Excuse us while we wrap our heads around the sheer number of pixels; you'll find more info after the break in the meantime.

Never Stop Learning

Cameras are always changing, and the field of photography is always diversifying.  As a result, if you are wanting to be in the field of photography you can Never Stop Learning.  Personally I try to take a course at least once every other month – sometimes it just means repeating a course to get something new out of it, other times it is something totally new that the industry has to offer.  It doesn’t matter, as long as I am challenging myself.   The average full day class with a world class photographer works out to almost $1000 CAD/day, and I understand that this is simply not feasible for most (myself included-though I would absolutely love to attend an MJ2 Day Workshop)…but alas, there are many other ways to learn, even though the “experience” of shooting  side by side, and the interaction you would like with your photographer mentor is not available. But there are ways to  keep up with the latest in what you can offer your clients and take advantage of what your equipment can do for you.  To begin, DVD training, it may not give you live interaction, however, you will have the advantage of reviewing it over and over.  Next,  E-Classes, many of these classes that you take will come with the option of purchase as well, so if you do find the information too much to take in all at once, you can review it later.  Webinars are another option, and you are able to have an interaction with the speaker on these, either through voice or typed questions and comments.  And of course, there is YouTube!  If you ever want to know how to do something, chances are, someone has posted a video on it on YouTube.  Below I have posted a screen captured for the site Creative Live – an incredible teaching tool which recently completed a week long class of epic proportions – putting them on the map for all time by having Jasmine Star teach for 5 Days, including shooting a wedding live! There are so many training resources out there; what are your favourites?

My Classy Snap Pac

snap sacIt has been quite some time in the making and searching, but the day finally came – I now have my own version of the shoot sac and after a few weeks of using it, I’m proud to say – it works Fantastic!!!. Yes, it’s true – I do like the Shoot Sac, but for reasons I’m sure you could figure out for yourselves, I chose to go a different route – and came up with my own version of what I have been looking for but never found.  Basically I wanted to be able to have on me at least one other lens, specifically while shooting weddings, something that didn’t get in my way, and it needed to look classy without standing out.  I thought through several different options, finally I decided to make my own Shoot sac using a neoprene laptop case.  During my search for the beginnings of my project though, I came across a bag that had a starting point for exactly what I wanted.  Once again it was a laptop case to begin with, but with a few alterations, it became my dream lens case – Yeah!  With some help from my professional seamstress neighbour Anne Marie, the case now holds up to three lenses easily while having very little bulk (it’s actually not as fat as the Shoot Sac which I like),  it curves around your hip stores my bounce card for when I’m not using my sto-fen, and has a great spot too for a carabiner style watch (I don’t like wearing a watch at a wedding-strange but true)  Currently I tend to keep 2 Canon L lenses and a 580 EX 11  flash with Sto-fen filter on inside of the pac , and then switch out the lenses for the reception allowing me to carry very little during each section of the wedding, and yet always have what I need.  That’s it, top it off with personal embroidery of your business logo, and you have one very classy looking lens pack!Snap Sac 2

Amazing Features With CS5

Photoshop is an absolutely amazing piece of software, and really a must for any serious photographer today.  I have really enjoyed Photohsop’s CS3 over the last few years, and when CS4 came out, I chose not to upgrade.  Later CS5 came out, again, I did not upgrade…until now.  Well, if you have not done so yet, it is well worth it – the main feature I knew of of course was the famous “content aware” feature.  WoW – there is sooo much much more!  The new masking features, reminiscent of the OnOne Software again makes the change well worth it.  The video below (by a very excited photoshop enthusiast) really shows off some of the upgrades available, enjoy!

Back To Class

Well, today is the day for classroom, e:class style!  Photography technology is constantly changing as I”m sure you know, and along with the hardware changes, come the often greater changes in software.  Understanding or even realizing the tools are available in the software you are using is incredibly important.  As a result, I continue to regularly take classes, often online, like with this e:class being presented tomorrow by world renown teacher/software developer: Kevin Kubota.  The class begins at 10AM PST, so we won’t get it here till1pm, but it is scheduled for a full 90 minutes, and includes a video download of the course afterwards, along with live Q&A.  Well worth the “tuition fee”.   Looking forward to learning all the latest and greatest that Lightroom 3 has to offer.  For more details on how you can get in on the class, go HERE.
